When one size does not fit all

We got a glimpse of the reality for skiers with disabilities. Try to keep the balance with only your hands and snowboarding without the help of your legs, or steer with a straw in your mouth. It gave us all great respect for the knowledge and drive these dedicated ski instructors and skiers possess. Regardless of how one gets down the slopes, we all agree it is a sport filled with speed and freedom for everyone.

One of our co-workers described the day like this:

“I hadn’t realised how much effort, innovation and money it takes to get everyone on skis. They are driven by commitment and passion that leads to inclusive skiing.’

And the incredible thing is that it is a non-profit organisation entirely dependent on external grants and partnerships to operate and develop.

Conventional ski rental can be tricky for everyone, but in Totalskidskolan’s case, it is another level of complexity. All the gear is customised, and depending on the skier, it will be adapted to fit the user of the day. The skier can choose and re-choose different equipment depending on the day’s preferences. It can also be a seat change, and the steering handles can be changed to levers or a crossbar handle or the ski can be changed to more or less a turning radius.

Some innovative equipment comes from Sweden, but development in cooperation with other countries is sometimes needed to customise the gear and functions.

We are incredibly proud to be partners with people who are enablers!

Or, as one of our co-workers explained:

“I am proud to work for a company that genuinely strives for inclusion and equality, and our collaboration with Totalskidskolan is a testament to that”.

New Year, New Opportunities, and Welcoming New Team Members!

Join us in extending a warm welcome to our new team members.

Annabel Kossov – Office Assistant

What did you do before joining SAM Nordic?

– I was involved in social work, aiding individuals in vulnerable situations and the related stakeholders.

So far, what is your impression of SAM Nordic as a company?

– Without a doubt, the colleagues are supportive, lovely, and kind. Everyone is highly engaged in the company’s objectives. A truly beautiful and inspiring environment.

What do you bring to the team as a colleague?

– Hopefully, I will bring positivity and motivation to stay active. It would certainly be fun to exercise together, and it seems like many people are up for it here!

What are you most looking forward to in the role of Office Assistant?

– I’m genuinely excited about learning more about the company, understanding how everything works, and determining how I can contribute with my skills. I’m also excited to develop personally and get to know all my wonderful colleagues.

We all have morning routines. Which is your most important one for having a productive and good day?

– Undoubtedly, breakfast and coffee!

What do you do when not at work?

– I’m pretty active; depending on the weather, I engage in ‘rucking’ outdoors or hitting the gym. I spend a lot of time trekking in nature with a heavy backpack, which is a superb workout. I enjoy spending quality time with my partner, often watching films. Skincare is also one of my interests; I consider myself a near-professional researcher in the field!

Who would you take with you to a desert island?

– It would be my partner, so he can work on his tan with me!

Johan Lind – IT Asset Management Specialist

What did you do before joining SAM Nordic?

– Before joining SAM Nordic, I worked as an IT manager. I was responsible for all internal IT processes and digitising the business there. I also have a background in healthcare as a nursing assistant before deciding to switch to IT. I’ve also participated in a cybersecurity trainee program.

So far, what do you think about SAM Nordic as a company?

– I received a very warm welcome and still do. The people seem to have fun together and are training-oriented, focusing on health. There’s a familiar, open atmosphere. Additionally, the company works with an important issue: distributing pharmaceuticals to patients who need care.

What do you bring to the team, as a colleague?

– I believe I’m a positive and cheerful person who is easy to get along with. I have worked broadly with IT issues over the years, from project management to information security. I can drive these issues and provide support in this context, which I’m eagerly looking forward to.

What are you most looking forward to in the IT Asset Management Specialist role?

I’m mostly looking forward to utilising my knowledge and applying what I’ve previously learned to contribute to SAM Nordic and help develop the business. This sector is different from those I have been previously involved in, and I’m eagerly anticipating learning a great deal!

We all have morning routines. Which is your most important one for having a productive and good day?

I don’t have a morning routine, except for my morning coffee, which is crucial. Without it, I get a headache, making the start of the day less than ideal.

What do you do when not at work?

– I enjoy travelling and discovering the world. I spend my time at my summer cottage in the Stockholm archipelago during the summer months. I like to have ongoing projects; it gets boring if there’s nothing to work on. Renovating is fun!

Even though it can go through periods of my life, I think it’s important to remain active and exercise. I enjoy playing golf, even if I don’t do it regularly.

Who would you take with you to a desert island?

– I would certainly bring along someone who can hunt, gather food, and make a fire… I wouldn’t last long without food!
